All About Charlestown Walking Tours.

Author, Historian, and Retired Commercial Fisherman.

My name is Lyndon Allen and I am an eighth generation descendent of one of Charlestown's original families. My family came up from Veryan to build the port we see today. The family then morphed into coastguards, pilots,  and seamen, all at Charlestown. I am a passionate Charlestown historian. I was a commercial fisherman from the port itself for 36 years. My grandfather was the harbour master and his father was a master mariner, both at Charlestown. I have written two books about its intriguing past entitled Charlestown - Time and Tide ( A History of Charlestown) and Charlestown (Batten down the Hatches). It's a subject I've researched for over 40 years. I am also the Author of a book entitled "St Austell-The Porcelain Parish."

So come walk with me and step back through time to the very beginnings of the fishing hamlet of Polmear. Learn about Charles Rashleigh, who built the port from whom the village got its name. I will talk in great depth on subjects such as the church, the Great Charlestown Road, the Napoleonic Gun Battery, the pilots,  shipping, filming, etc, and much, much more.

My mission is to show a different side of Charlestown to my clients and to help them gain a better and deeper understanding of the village and its original inhabitants. I would like very much to tell you all about its glorious past, and I look forward to meeting you in the near future.

The meeting place for all tours will be at the church gate on Church Road.  Tours finish in the outer harbour area. Walking tours are twice daily at 10.30 am and 2 pm and are 2 hours in duration minutes.  Please book early to avoid disappointment.
